Gus Jeffers, a 14-year-old pop and R&B artist from Portland, Oregon, is a prodigious talent blending the influences of Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson, and Justin Bieber. A multi-instrumentalist, Gus started his musical journey early, gaining recognition for his cover of the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” at age 11. He continues to develop under the guidance of industry mentors. Gus is releasing new music monthly as part of his 4th project. Notable singles include "Stick Up," "Stuck," and "You Love U." He also performs regularly in Portland and is currently writing and producing for other teen artists as well.

Gus Jeffers aimed to significantly boost the Spotify streams for one of his new songs, with the ultimate goal of not just driving direct traffic but also triggering Spotify's algorithmic recommendations to expand his organic reach. The challenge was to achieve this effectively within a daily budget, converting ad spend into high-quality listeners.

How we solved it:

Our strategy focused on a Meta Ads campaign utilizing the "engagement" objective, specifically optimizing for Spotify link clicks on a Smartnoise smart links landing page. We implemented Smartnoise's native conversion pixel tagging to accurately track these Spotify link clicks.

To ensure we reached the most receptive audience, we created custom audiences targeting fans of similar-sounding popular artists and applied demographic targeting aligned with Gus's ideal fan description.

Our campaigns were strategically limited to Tier 1 and Tier 2 countries for higher quality engagement. Furthermore, we concentrated placements on Instagram and Facebook Reels and Stories, leveraging these visually engaging formats. Multiple creative formats were rigorously tested and optimized to maximize campaign performance and drive listeners directly to Spotify.

Our Meta Ads campaign delivered outstanding results, not only boosting direct streams but also successfully triggering Spotify's powerful algorithm:

  • Significant Streams: The song achieved 46,809 streams within the campaign period (Aug 10 - Sep 6, 2024), contributing to 77,375 all-time streams. It has 208k lifetime streams as of July 2025.

  • Engaged Listeners: The campaign attracted 10,163 unique listeners, with an impressive 4.606 streams per listener, indicating high engagement.

  • Algorithmic Trigger: Crucially, our ad runs directly correlated with a significant surge in streams, indicating that the initial push from our ads successfully triggered Spotify's algorithm, leading to sustained organic growth even after the main ad run. This is evident from the spike in streams observed around August 25th, post the initial "Ads run" period.

  • Platform Engagement: The song also garnered 276 playlist adds and 1,270 saves, metrics that further signal listener interest and contribute to algorithmic favorability.
